As a Mars Venus Certified coach you will help your clients gain clarity around that they really want in their life, in their relationships, in their career, in anything they truly want to get out of life. The problem is many people either don’t know what they want or they know but it’s not really clear what it looks like. That’s’ your first step in helping…bring them clarity. Then you will help them craft a plan, step by step plan getting them closer to that personal goal. Lastly, and most importantly, you will hold them accountable to implementing that plan every week. If this is something you can see yourself doing, call us today at (702) 835-9295.

Why Mars Venus Coaching?

  • Because you KNOW you’re supposed to be making a HUGE difference in the world, and instead you’re playing “small” or slaving away working for someone else. What do you need to do to start playing the bigger game you know you’re meant to?
  • That you can’t seem to earn the sort of salary you think you deserve, or charge clients what you think you are worth, and therefore are barely scraping by.
  • Because you are having difficulty getting and keeping clients. What could you do to attract and keep more clients?
  • That YOU ARE YOUR BRAND, and not enough people have heard of YOU. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a brand name behind you. A brand name that people automatically knew, respected and that opened doors to new possibilities and clients?
  • That your coaching certification hasn’t opened the doors you thought it would.

Then I have the SOLUTION for you. That is, if you qualify to become a part of my team.

Can Chasing Small Customers Lead to Big Profits? The New York Times, best small business.#Best #small #business

Can Chasing Small Customers Lead to Larger Profits?

By ADRIANA GARDELLA APRIL 27, 2011

Best small business

Darren Robbins and a partner founded Big D Custom Screen Printing in 2007. In its first year, the company, which is based in Austin, Tex., and specializes in printing T-shirts, recorded sales of $325,000 and a small loss.

THE CHALLENGE To become profitable, Big D must determine whether to cater to customers with large printing orders or small.

THE BACKGROUND Mr. Robbins, a former full-time musician who still plays in a band, was nostalgic for the multicolor tour shirts of his youth, which he described as “works of art.” He said he was appalled by the one-color shirts sold at today’s shows. He was also disappointed by the quality of shirts created by some of Austin’s many screen printers and said he could do better.

With that goal, Mr. Robbins and his partner, who worked for Capitol Records, invested a total of $225,000 to open Big D. The division of labor was clear. “I was a natural-born customer-service geek, and he was a natural-born salesman,” said Mr. Robbins, who resolved to take care of the customers his partner brought in. “We wanted to be one of the big boys.”

As his partner traveled the country trying to win accounts, Mr. Robbins ran the shop, frequently declining business from potential customers who requested small orders. Mr. Robbins, 44, who has a background in ad agency account management, said that turning away business kept him up nights. He wanted every call to end with a sale.

By the end of its first year, Big D had grabbed a few big accounts — local video game and record companies that placed orders for 5,000 to 15,000 shirts. But when the shop was not cranking out large orders, it sat idle. Mr. Robbins said his partner feared that small orders would prevent Big D from handling bigger jobs should they come in. But given his ad agency experience, Mr. Robbins said he was used to demanding clients and short deadlines. “With effective scheduling, you can pretty much accommodate any customer,” he said. Following the lead of his competitors, he charged more per shirt for the smaller orders he did take.

THE OPTIONS At first, Mr. Robbins and his partner agreed on strategy. With their industry contacts, they said they believed they could land accounts from major bands. Focusing on high-volume orders made sense to them in part because Big D’s suppliers offered a price break on large quantity T-shirt orders.

But the partners did not realize that most bands were locked in to long-term contracts for their tour shirts. Given that, Mr. Robbins started to wonder about the strategy of chasing down high-volume clients, particularly when he had so many smaller prospects knocking on his door. But, he said, his partner saw no point in accepting orders for one or two shirts. His partner continued to believe big orders were crucial to profitability and that he could best win those accounts by conducting in-office presentations for corporate prospects across the country.

THE DECISION After a year in business, Mr. Robbins threw an anniversary party in April 2008 to thank his employees for their dedication. His partner, however, opposed the modest celebration because its cost meant the difference between breaking even and showing a loss on Big D’s first-year sales. This disagreement highlighted the increasing tension between the partners’ growth philosophies.

Determined to accept smaller orders, Mr. Robbins bought out his partner around the time of the party. The split was amicable, Mr. Robbins said, with his former partner breaking even on the sale and returning to the music business. And then the economy crashed. “Almost overnight, companies tightened their belts,” Mr. Robbins said.

At that point, he decided that no order was too small. He would find a way to take all business, even an order for a single T-shirt. He knew there would not be a lot of competition from the other local screen printers for the small orders. “I noticed they weren’t in a huge hurry to fit them in,” he said.

Big D began catering to those with small needs, including a Houston comedian who wanted 20 shirts. Once he made a decision to take all orders, Mr. Robbins reassessed his costs and determined that he could make a profit on the smaller orders, even without charging the significant markup that many of his competitors charged — a markup that effectively discouraged customers from placing small orders. Instead, Mr. Robbins lowered prices on smaller orders, bringing them more in line with the per-shirt price for large orders. Big D charges $5 per shirt for 40 to 499 white T-shirts printed with one color, while the charge for an order of 1,000 or more shirts is $3.50 per shirt. He was able to take this step and still make a profit because, regardless of order size, Big D’s costs to print the shirts were not that high. Because of the quantity discount, the company would still make a greater profit on its large orders, but Mr. Robbins said he decided to “be as fair as possible” on the smaller orders. His prices for one shirt, a “micro-run,” begin at $25.

He also eliminated set-up charges, a common fee charged by printers, and put his prices on Big D’s Web site, mostly so he did not have to memorize them. “Many of our competitors make you come to them for a price quote, adding a day to the process,” Mr. Robbins said. He hoped that Big D’s transparent pricing would become another way for the company to differentiate itself.

“The competition — and my partner — thought I was nuts,” he said. But Mr. Robbins said he understood his costs and could become profitable “without gouging people.”

WHAT OTHERS SAY Carol Adams, owner of TorlyKid, (a children’s clothing store: “If a business focuses solely on fewer large accounts, and one of those disappears, the consequences can be devastating. We try to expose as many people as possible to our business, and that exposure can only come by nurturing the smaller clients as well as the large ones.”

John Olson, chief executive, Graystone Industries, a pond and fountain supply business: “The partners should have targeted midsize accounts, handling larger orders when they arose and smaller ones to fill gaps. Mr. Robbins limited himself to a niche within a niche with little upside potential. He can run profitably and perhaps make a nice living, but the company won’t be efficient.”

Michael Araten, president, K’NEX Brands, a toymaker: “Like Mr. Robbins, Wal-Mart, Zappos and Amazon.com focused on small customers and transparent pricing, while making it easy for them to get customized products. Small orders pay for the day-to-day. Large orders are incremental profit that leverage Mr. Robbins’s expertise. I’m certain he can have it all.”

THE RESULTS To offer your thoughts on Mr. Robbins’s decision, go to the You’re the Boss blog at nytimes.com/boss. Next week, on the blog and in this space, we will tell you how things are working out for Big D.

A small business loan is an amount of money borrowed from a financial institution by a small business person to start, run, or expand a small business.

Getting a Small Business Loan is Difficult

Unfortunately, financial institutions are notoriously reluctant to lend to small businesses – according to a recent survey by ondeck of over 10,000 business loan applicants in the U.S,, 82% were denied financing by their bank.

Loaning to small businesses, especially startups, is a riskier proposition for banks than mortgage lending or lending to larger, established businesses.

In addition, given that the underwriting costs for evaluating, verifying, and processing a small loan is roughly the same as for a larger one, banks can increase their profits by focusing on larger loans to bigger businesses (small businesses typically request loans of less than $500,000). As well as being rejected for financing more often, smaller businesses also typically pay higher interest rates on loans than big businesses.

Consider that you may have an excellent credit rating and a solid business plan and still not be able to get a small business loan because you have no collateral. Even established business people can find themselves in this position, if they do not own enough tangible assets, such as houses or other property.

In other words, the small business loan is not being granted on the status of your business; it s being granted on your personal financial status.

That s why it s important that your personal financial house is in order before you apply for a small business loan.

You will also find that many lenders just don t provide seed money. While they re perfectly willing to give a small business loan to help a business grow, they don t want to take the risk of lending to a start up.

All that being said, you have a better chance of getting a small business loan if you know where to look and are prepared to meet the lender s expectations. Keep in mind that the overarching consideration of lenders is risk management and approval will hinge on their assessment of your ability to pay back the loan.

Increasing the Odds of a Successful Loan Application

Aside from sufficient collateral, financial institutions will need the following before considering a loan application:

  • A business plan document that outlines your company, products, target market, staffing, cash flow and other financial projections, etc. Banks scrutinize business plans to reassure themselves that the business they are lending to is likely to be successful. As such, the business plan needs to demonstrate a solid business model backed by sound management.
  • If you are an established business, information such as loans/credit history, bank accounts, and other supporting financial information. You should also include accounts receivable and accounts payable statements, and references from vendors that indicate that you have a solid history of making payments on time. Finally, include balance sheets, corporate tax returns, and (if possible) audited financial statements for the previous few years of business.
  • A personal financial summary, including details of assets such as property, vehicles, investments, etc. and liabilities such as mortgages, loans, credit card debt, etc.

Note that banks will often also require creditor insurance on business loans, which covers repayment of the loan in the case of death or disability of the business owner(s).

For more on increasing your chances of getting a small business loan, see How to Get a Small Business Loan.

Credit Unions May Be a Better Choice Than Banks

Credit unions are an increasingly important source of financing for small businesses. According to the Huffington Post: From June 2007, the onset of the financial crisis, to December 2015, small business loans outstanding at credit unions more than doubled—growing by slightly more than 130% over the period.

Those loans at banks actually shrank by 10% during that time.

Credit unions are smaller, more locally oriented institutions and as such are more likely to lend to small businesses in their communities. Banks on the other hand, have gotten larger and more national (and international) through mergers and acquisitions. The larger the institution the less likely decisions (such as lending policy) are made at the local level.

Examples: Steven s application for a small business loan was rejected because he didn t have any collateral.

  • Design a stunning letterhead: 10 expert tips

A beautiful letterhead can make all the difference to the success of your branding. Here’s how to make one.

There’s a huge difference between receiving a letter on standard blank paper, and getting one topped with a beautifully designed letterhead. A letterhead acts as a marketing opportunity, provides an opportunity for brand engagement and, apart from anything else, lend credibility to the words on the page.

Designing an effective letterhead is a unique challenge. Sometimes your letterhead design will be the first interaction a customer has had with a particular company, while other times it will be used to reinforce the brand identity. It’s crucial to get the details right, but to also produce something that’s eye-catching, and memorable.

01. Keep it simple

Business letterhead

One of the most important principles behind an effective letterhead is to keep the design as simple as possible. Keep in mind that a letterhead is essentially a delivery mechanism. It’s important your letterhead looks and feels great in the hand, but the design should make way for the content of the letter that’s printed over it.

By all means use your design to showcase the content, but don’t try to wrestle it for the reader’s attention. It’s useful to ask yourself whether you’re competing with the content: if you’re in doubt, simplify your letterhead design.

02. Use the right software

Business letterhead

There are times when it makes sense to use Photoshop as your design tool, and it’s perfectly possible to design a letterhead using Photoshop, but there are far more suitable tools available for the job.

At the top of the list are Illustrator and InDesign. Both these tools have excellent typography controls and are vector-based, making it easier to draw simple elements and reposition them effectively.

If you only have Photoshop available to you, keep in mind that print-destined artwork should be produced at 300dpi and if you’re printing your letterheads commercially there will be a bleed requirement (consult with your print supplier).

03. Use hierarchy in your design

Business letterhead

Letterhead design, like almost every other field of design, is about communicating important information effectively. Usually (although by no means always) the most critical piece of info you need to communicate is who’s writing the letter the company or individual responsible. After that, a return address, telephone number or email address are all needed; but they’re not quite as important as the company name. Or are they?

You need to decide on the critical pieces of information your letterhead should convey, and design based on this hierarchy. Key information should be positioned obviously and accessibly, while less important information can be reduced in size and tucked away in a less obtrusive area.

04. Choose the right details

Business letterhead

It’s not always necessary to include every last detail on a letterhead. Consider who will be using the stationery. If it’s specifically for the managing director’s secretary, and will always be used just by them, perhaps it makes sense to include a direct dial to the secretary’s office. If it’s more general stock to be used for many different applications, go for a general number instead.

There may be certain legal requirements for information must be included, such as registration numbers for accrediting bodies such as Companies House, or The Charity Commission. But beyond those requirements, consider what information is really necessary, and choose the right details for your letterhead.

05. Design for the medium

Business letterhead

It used to be that letterheads were exclusively designed for print; they’d be professionally printed and then typed over (or printed over) in the office. Yet paper is becoming a precious commodity in the digital era, and many letterhead designs will only every see an office printer being printed directly using a Word template or similar.

You need to understand how your letterhead design will be used, because there’s little point designing a full-page bleed when the office printer doesn’t print to the edge of the sheet. Instead, if you’re designing for a self-print solution, use generous margins at the edge of the page and avoid extremely light tints that might not reproduce well on office equipment.

06. Represent the brand

Business letterhead

Make sure you carefully represent the company’s branding when designing your letterhead. This isn’t just about the logo, but the choice of colour scheme, font(s), imagery, and much more. If your logo has an exclusion zone, make sure you adhere to it on your letterhead. Equally important is to use the correct font Helvetica won’t cut it if the corporate font should be Univers!

07. Exploit stock characteristics

Business letterhead

If you’re designing for print, there are many wonderful paper stocks available from companies such as GF Smith. Each has its own characteristics some have a rich, textured surface while others are smooth and heavyweight.

Using the choice of stock as part of your letterhead design process can help to cement your artwork in its new home, producing something pleasingly tactile and visual.

Do keep in mind the need for practical application, though there’s no point designing a letterhead on 320gsm card if your client’s office printer can’t handle that weight of stock!

08. Add special effects

Business letterhead

If you’re getting your letterheads printed professionally, consider what special effects you can employ to make your design take on an extra lustre.

A simple way to add sophistication to your design is to print solid colour on the reverse of the letterhead, and overprint a spot-UV design that will reflect light differently to the non-UV-printed areas. This is a cost-effective but visually impressive effect.

Other options include using a specialist printer for letterpress effects (embossing and debossing), foil blocking, and die-cutting.

09. Consider alignment and positioning

Business letterhead

Remember that your letterhead design should relate the branding to the medium take advantage of the size and shape of the letterhead to inform decisions about where you place individual elements.

For example, in a standard A4 portrait letterhead, consider indenting the logo half its icon width from the edge. This balance of shape and offset will help cement your design on the page, creating a connected design.

10. Use colour sparingly

Business letterhead

This rule applies to pretty much anything you design, but is worth repeating regardless. Colour is a great way to draw attention to your design, and to specific areas within your letterhead. Not only can it highlight a section, but it can also communicate specific ideas and emotions, create associations and, of course, reinforce branding.

Colour is an extremely powerful tool that can make or break your letterhead design but as the saying goes, with great power comes great responsibility. Use colour sparingly and make the most of the impact it brings to your letterhead design.

    How our site works

We want to show you short term business loans from as many lenders as possible, so you have plenty of choice. Not all lenders want to be included on comparison websites, so we can’t promise to show you loans from every single one. We’ve looked at how much it would cost to borrow £10,000 over 6 months, including fees, and we’ve ranked the lenders from the cheapest to the most expensive. You can find out more about how we work here.

    Advantages of short-term business loans

The main advantage of opting for a short-term business loan is that you know your business will only have to make repayments for a limited period of time. You will also usually pay less interest overall than if you opted to repay what you owe over a much longer term, such as five years.

Disadvantages of a short-term business loans

Choosing to take out a short-term business loan may mean that you will be able to pay off what you owe quickly, but bear in mind that your repayments will be much higher than if you opted to repay your long over a medium or long-term period. Interest rates can be very high on short-term borrowing, so it’s worth comparing lots of different loans to ensure you find the right deal for your business’s needs.

What else you need to know

Difficult economic conditions in recent years have made it harder for businesses to borrow money. To apply for a business loan, your business may be required to have a minimum monthly turnover, and you may have to show a set number of accounts, usually two or more years.

Remember too that the actual rate of interest you will be charged on a short-term business loan will depend on your business’s individual circumstances, the amount you want to borrow, and over what period you intend to pay off what you owe.

Alternatives to a short-term business loan

If you don’t think your business will be able to pay off any borrowing over a year or less, then you might want to consider a medium or long-term business loan which can be repaid more slowly.

Other options include using a business credit card for any immediate expenses. These can also be a useful way to manage staff spending. You could also speak to the provider of your business bank account about arranging a business overdraft which can provide you access to funds as and when you need them. You can usually arrange an overdraft for a 12 month period, at which point it will have to be renewed.

Businesses can also raise funds though cashflow finance, which allows then to borrow against the value of their

Social media giant Facebook has made a move into dedicated video, pitting it against YouTube and TV networks.

Users will soon see a new Watch tab that will offer a range of shows, some of which have been funded by the social network

Watch will be personalised so that users can discover new shows, based on what their friends are watching.

Viewers will also be able to see comments and connect with friends and dedicated groups for shows.

“Watching a show doesn’t have to be passive,” said the company’s founder Mark Zuckerberg in a Facebook post.

“It can be a chance to share an experience and bring people together who care about the same things.”

Video has been available on Facebook for some time, but until now, it has mostly been dominated by amateur clips or short segments from news organisations.

The world’s largest social network added a video tab last year, and has hinted for some time that it might make the move to producing original content.

Watch could open up new revenue potential for both Facebook and programme makers, while users can expect to see targeted advertising before and during the shows.

Analysis by Leo Kelion, Technology desk editor

Facebook says it hopes its selection of shows will address both niche and broad interests.

If the choice at launch is anything to go by, its focus will be factual entertainment – cookery, fitness and travel-themed programmes that play well on a smartphone screen, rather than flagship dramas like House of Cards or Game of Thrones, which are both more expensive to produce and better suited for playback on TVs.

Product director Daniel Danker – an ex-BBC iPlayer executive – told me that his goal was for anyone to be able to make shows for Watch.

For now, only a small set of approved publishers can include ad breaks, but he said the list would broaden over time, although it was too soon to say if it would extend to all.

That could prove critical to wooing content-makers away from YouTube.

For the moment, Google’s video streaming site still offers an easier way for popular vloggers and others outside the mainstream media industry to make money from their efforts.

But Mr Danker signalled that Facebook is willing to take its time exploring what works on Watch and would not even commit to it being rolled out beyond the US before the end of the year.

    Crowded market

Facebook is entering an increasingly complex and crowded market, and will face competition from traditional TV networks as well as other online services like YouTube and Netflix.

Disney yesterday announced that from 2019, it will scrap its existing deal with Netflix and create its own direct-to-consumer streaming-video services.

It will also set up a sports-themed ESPN streaming service next year.

Facebook already has content lined up, including Major League Baseball, Women’s basketball, parenting shows and a safari show from National Geographic.

According to Reuters news agency, it has also inked deals with millennial-oriented media groups Vox Media, BuzzFeed, ATTN, Group Nine Media and others to produce shows.

Watch will have a limited release in the US before it is rolled out more broadly.

Gartner Predicts by 2017, Half of Employers will Require Employees to Supply Their Own Device for Work Purposes, own business.#Own #business

    Newsroom

STAMFORD, Conn., May 1, 2013 View All Press Releases

Enterprises That Offer Only Corporate-Liable Programs Will Soon Be the Exception

As enterprise bring your own device (BYOD) programs continue to become more commonplace, 38 percent of companies expect to stop providing devices to workers by 2016, according to a global survey of CIOs by Gartner, Inc.’s Executive Programs

“BYOD strategies are the most radical change to the economics and the culture of client computing in business in decades,” said David Willis, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner. “The benefits of BYOD include creating new mobile workforce opportunities, increasing employee satisfaction, and reducing or avoiding costs.”

Gartner defines a BYOD strategy as an alternative strategy that allows employees, business partners and other users to use a personally selected and purchased client device to execute enterprise applications and access data. It typically spans smartphones and tablets, but the strategy may also be used for PCs. It may or may not include a subsidy.

BYOD drives innovation for CIOs and the business by increasing the number of mobile application users in the workforce. Rolling out applications throughout the workforce presents myriad new opportunities beyond traditional mobile email and communications. Applications such as time sheets, punch lists, site check-in/check-out, and employee self-service HR applications are just a few examples. Expanding access and driving innovation will ultimately be the legacy of the BYOD phenomenon.

“However, the business case for BYOD needs to be better evaluated,” said Mr. Willis. “Most leaders do not understand the benefits, and only 22 percent believe they have made a strong business case. Like other elements of the Nexus of Forces (cloud, mobile, social and information), mobile initiatives are often exploratory and may not have a clearly defined and quantifiable goal, making IT planners uncomfortable. If you are offering BYOD, take advantage of the opportunity to show the rest of the organization the benefits it will bring to them and to the business.”

While BYOD is occurring in companies and governments of all sizes, it is most prevalent in midsize and large organizations ($500 million to $5 billion in revenue, with 2,500 to 5,000 employees). BYOD also permits smaller companies to go mobile without a huge device and service investment. Adoption varies widely across the globe. Companies in the United States are twice as likely to allow BYOD as those in Europe, where BYOD has the lowest adoption of all the regions. In contrast, employees in India, China and Brazil are most likely to be using a personal device, typically a standard mobile phone, at work.

How a well-managed BYOD program subsidizes the use of a personal device is critical, and can dramatically change the economics. Today, roughly half of BYOD programs provide a partial reimbursement, and full reimbursement for all costs will become rare. Gartner believes that coupling the effect of mass market adoption with the steady declines in carrier fees, employers will gradually reduce their subsidies and as the number of workers using mobile devices expands, those who receive no subsidy whatsoever will grow.

“The enterprise should subsidize only the service plan on a smartphone,” said Mr. Willis. “What happens if you buy a device for an employee and they leave the job a month later? How are you going to settle up? Better to keep it simple. The employee owns the device, and the company helps to cover usage costs.

BYOD does increase risks and changes expectations for CIOs. Unsurprisingly, security is the top concern for BYOD. The risk of data leakage on mobile platforms is particularly acute. Some mobile devices are designed to share data in the cloud and have no general purpose file system for applications to share, increasing the potential for data to be easily duplicated between applications and moved between applications and the cloud.

However, in general, IT is catching up to the phenomenon of BYOD. More than half of organizations rate themselves high in security of corporate data for enterprise-owned mobile devices. This new confidence in the security posture to support BYOD is a reflection of more-mature tools and processes that address myriad needs in the security area.

“We’re finally reaching the point where IT officially recognizes what has always been going on: People use their business device for nonwork purposes,” said Mr. Willis. “They often use a personal device in business. Once you realize that, you’ll understand you need to protect data in another way besides locking down the full device. It is essential that IT specify which platforms will be supported and how; what service levels a user should expect; what the user’s own responsibilities and risks are; who qualifies; and that IT provides guidelines for employees purchasing a personal device for use at work, such as minimum requirements for operating systems.”

More detailed analysis is available in the report “Bring Your Own Device: The Facts and the Future.” The report is available on Gartner’s website at http://www.gartner.com/resId=2422315.

Mr. Willis will provide additional analysis during the Gartner webinar, “Bring Your Own Device Program Best Practices (BYOD) on May 2 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. EDT. Business Grants for Women Entrepreneurs

“There are various grant types in the UK, and women who are applying for grants must see where they fit in and make appropriate applications. “

Women business grants have an added significance in the UK because of the large number of mumpreneurs starting out with their careers presently. The UK government is quite alive to the fact that a larger number of women entrepreneurs will mean an improvement in the national economy as a whole. For that reason, there are some laxities in terms of providing women business grants in the UK. Here we see some details.

      Eligibilities for Grants

      1. Your grant eligibility will depend on where in the UK you are located. Different areas have different rules here. If you are located in a socially deprived area or an area where unemployment is quite high, then you have a better chance to get a business grant.
      2. The size of the business is another important concern. Larger businesses or businesses that have a better turnover stand a better chance for getting business grants. For most women business grants, the eligibility is for people who run businesses of fewer than 250 employees.
      3. The European Commission defines the criteria for business funding. To be considered worthy of a grant, the application has to be closely scrutinized by the Commission.
      4. The objective for the grant is also of importance. Women who apply for business grants in the UK have to mention what they want the grants for, such as improvement of working area, purchasing equipment and machinery, developing an export market or expanding the number of employees.
      5. Most importantly, the grant providers have certain objectives in mind with the grants that they provide. When they consider grant eligibilities, they see if giving out a particular grant meets with their predefined objectives.

Different Types of Women Business Grants in the UK

There are various grant types in the UK, and women who are applying for grants must see where they fit in and make appropriate applications. Here is a list of the different types of business grants that are available.

      Grant for Business Investment (GBI)

This is a basic type of grant that is provided to buy the venue for business, tools and equipment, machinery, etc. As such, these grants are for capital investment needed for business. This grant has different local names. In Scotland, it is known as Grant for Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) and in Northern Ireland, it is known as the Enterprise Northern Ireland Loan Fund (ENILF). Their rules and restrictions are different from one another as well.

      Research and Development Grants

These are grants provided for the promotion of innovations in terms of research and development. If a business is associated with producing an innovative product that can benefit society, or is endeavoring to do so, the business becomes liable for a grant.

      Business Solutions Grants

Women who make suitable proposals for running profit-making businesses stand to become eligible for business solution grants. These women might ask for grants in various departments of their business solution exercise. For instance, they might apply for a grant just for the starting up of their business, finance management, skills and training development, implementing resources and ideas and such. Women who are looking at expanding their businesses by harnessing specific international opportunities are likelier to win business grants within the UK.

      Shared Knowledge

Another interesting criterion for women business grants in the UK is the businesses that use some kind of research and development for their SMBs. These businesses might partner with educational and academic institutions to further their research and development pursuits.

      Training and Skills

This is a program that is specific to England. This is a service that helps businesses find out what kinds of skills they will need to operate and then they plan out various training modules for them to reach these skill goals. This program, called as Train to Gain, funds and even implements the requisite training for the growth of the business.

Applying for Women Business Grants in the UK

The first step in making the application is to find out which scheme you fit in. This is of extreme importance as grant eligibility essentially influences grant approvals.

Additionally, some preliminary groundwork needs to be done.

      1. You have to ensure that you have some investment to make on your own steam. No grant in the UK will cover for all the financial needs of your business.
      2. You have to convince the grant providers that you will use the grant money only for the stated person and not contrarily. This is verified regularly by the various grant providing bodies.
      3. You need to get an agreement about the grant that has been accorded to you. Without getting this agreement, you mustn’t start any of the business related work.

Once you have identified the area you fit in, you can make your grant proposal. This proposal needs to be extensive and elaborate and must include the following points:-

      1. A complete description of your project must be made. This helps the grant providers ensure whether or not they want to give you the grant.
      2. You have to lay bare the various advantages that the project will provide to society.
      3. A complete plan of your work must be mentioned, along with the expenses involved at each step.
      4. If you have any experiences in the same field as the one you are applying for a grant in, you have to mention that. You can enhance your application by adding the experiences of all the managers involved with the project.
      5. The application forms must be completed in all respects. Forms with incomplete areas might risk rejection.
      6. A detailed business plan could be a good idea to go with the grant proposal, but this is not a mandatory requirement.

What needs to be understood that it is easy to get women business grants in the UK, provided some eligibilities and requirements are met. You need to see where you stand and then make a proper application. For more details, you could visit the government website which is available at http://www.smallbusiness.co.uk.

      Business grants

During tough times businesses are encouraged to seek out and obtain a temporary business loan or business grant in order to receive grant money that they do not have to repay.

Starting or growing a business can be a costly undertaking and usually requires a great deal of cash. While there are a variety of ways to raise capital for your business venture, these can be both time consuming and difficult depending on the funds required. The US government and private organizations set aside millions of dollars every year through business loans and grants that help companies get started, increase their trade and stay afloat in hard times.

In times of financial hardship the last thing the federal government wants is for businesses to fail. This starts a domino effect that means job loss, decreased consumer spending and a flagging economy as well as a significant decrease in taxable dollars. These grants are targeted at future business owners, new businesses and established businesses. During tough times businesses are encouraged to seek out and obtain a temporary business loan or business grant in order to receive grant money that they do not have to repay.

      The Opportunity Fund

The Opportunity Fund is specifically for business owners in the Northern and Southern California areas. The Opportunity fund is the largest non-profit source of microloans and microfinancing in California as well as financing for commercial real estate ventures. Since 1995 they have invested over $200 million in small businesses and handed out almost $20 million in small business loans to businesses in need.

      The Opportunity Fund Loan Details

      • Small and micro loans from $2,500 $100,000
      • Fixed Interest Rates 8% 12%
      • Loan Terms 1 – 5 years

Visit the official website for The Opportunity Fund to see if you qualify.

Those who are not located in the qualifying areas may qualify for similar types of grants in their areas, and they can be found by doing an online search. They can also ask people they know if they are aware of any non-profit organizations that are offering funds to owners of small businesses in a program such as the Opportunity Fund.

The “Love a Local Business” Competition

The Love a Local Business Grant Competition gives customers and employees alike a chance to reward their favorite businesses by nominating them for this grant. This competition has awarded over $1.1 million to small businesses with just one business winning $25,000 in a hiring grant. This grant is NOT available all year round and you should check Love Our Local Business Competition homepage to see if the grant is currently available

      Small Business Association

The Small Business Administration, or SBA, is a United States government agency, funded by tax dollars, that offers guidance and loan programs to entrepreneurs and small businesses. In the United States, for SBA purposes, small businesses are defined as those having less than 250 categories. Caps on revenue to meet the definition vary by industry, for example, non-manufacturing companies with revenues of under $7 million dollars qualify as small.

Under the loan guarantee program, the maximum amount that can be borrowed is $5 million dollars. Another financing scheme from the SBA is the traditional fixed asset loan, which also have a cap of five million. This is a more traditional type of loan where companies borrow money to hard assets for their businesses, like equipment, vehicles or property.

The SBA is not a direct lender, but these loans are administered through authorized non-profits in a business community. Access to the non-profits can be obtained by contacting your local, or nearest SBA office.

      State Agencies and Local Agencies

People will not necessarily find a federal program that offers them general funds for their small businesses, but they may find them at the state agencies and local agencies in their areas. One example is a low-interest loan. People can find out how they can apply for these low-interest loans by contacting the economic development agency in their states.

      The United States Government

If people can meet requirements for specific programs, they can apply for federal grant money. For example, if they are developing a “green” product, they may be able to find a federal grant that is funding this type of research. Search our grants database for programs that are appropriate for your business.

Entrepreneurs have many other ways that they can obtain the money they need than just applying for grants. For more small business resources check out our Grant Resources page.

What is a NUANS Search System?

A NUANS name search is a computerized search system that compares a proposed corporate / business name or trade-mark with databases of existing corporate names and trademarks. This comparison determines the similarity that may exists between the proposed name or trademark and existing names in the database, and produces a listing of names that are found to be most similar.

The search report consists of 7 pages and allows you to evaluate the availability of the proposed name.

You can view a sample of the NUANS report here – PDF or Image

View this quick video to learn more about NUANS searches.

Why do I need a NUANS Search?

NUANS name search report is required in order to register:

      1. Provincial or Federal Corporation

      2. Not-for-profit organization or a Charity

      3. Register a Trademark

In addition, NUANS search is a fairly comprehensive search to check availability of a business name.

A NUANS name search is necessary to incorporate your business in Alberta, Ontario or Canada. Requesting a NUANS search online takes only a few minutes. Your NUANS report is usually ready within 2-3 business hours. Your NUANS search report will show what specific corporate names that sound similar to your proposed name are already registered. It will also show you if you can use the proposed corporate name.

If the name already exists, then you will have to do a NUANS name search again. That is why we recommend doing a preliminary business name search before an actual NUANS search. That gives you an opportunity to search for up to 3 business names at a much lower price.

If you are registering a corporation and the proposed name does not exist, the NUANS search would actually reserve the name for 90 days.

What is a Preliminary NUANS Search?

If you are considering several names for your business, you can perform a Preliminary Name Search before making a final decision. A Preliminary name search will allow you to check up to 3 names for $15 plus tax.

Franchising to expand your – business, franchising your business.#Franchising #your #business

      Franchising to expand your business

      September 5, 2017

      Franchising your business

Turning your business into a franchise could enable fast expansion more economically than setting up branches. Figures from industry body, the British Franchise Association, show there were more than 901 franchisor brands in the UK in 2015 and 44,200 franchise outlets.

However, many business owners know little about franchising and they may be missing growth opportunities as a result.

Essentially, franchising allows you to increase your number of branches, but with part of the investment provided by their operators – your franchisees.

Peter Crolla chose franchising when he wanted to expand the family ice cream business. He tested the concept by running two pilot franchise outlets in Glasgow and 2016 decided to launch the Crolla’s Gelateria franchise.

“It took about six months to prepare for the launch, including creating a franchise management team and drawing up the franchise agreements, operations manuals and systems,” he says.

It cost around £60,000 to £70,000, but Mr Crolla says: “It is a lower-cost option than expanding through branches, because the franchisees fund their outlet fit-out, which is £150,000 to £200,000.”

It can also be faster than opening branches. Crolla’s already has two franchised outlets in Glasgow, others in Edinburgh and Aberdeen, and Mr Crolla expects to have eight by the end of the first quarter of 2018.

But not all businesses are suitable for franchising.

Suzie McCafferty, founder of franchise consultancy Platinum Wave, says: “Your underlying business must be successful, as you will be asking your franchisees to invest in it. If you cannot make a success of it, why assume they can?”

Your business must be proven to work, which is why you should run a pilot franchise. The business must be capable of being replicated in different locations and franchisees should be capable of learning your basic business methods fairly quickly.

A business that depends on your personal specialist knowledge, experience and contacts or requires qualifications which take years to acquire is unlikely to be suitable.

      Franchising your business

      Can you afford it?

While franchising involves using your franchisees’ money to expand your business, it still requires a significant investment from you.

Chris Roberts, director of Franchise Finance, which arranges finance for franchisors and franchisees, says: “You face the cost of creating the franchise business, including a feasibility study, franchise development plan, operations manual, financial projections, recruitment plan and more.

“Assuming you use qualified professionals to help you, it will probably cost around £30,000 to £40,000.”

It is also advisable to run at least one pilot franchise. “You need not do this, but banks are unlikely to lend to your franchisees if your model has not been tested and proven viable,” says Mr Roberts. The cost of running the pilot will vary according to set-up costs and working capital required.

In addition, you will need working capital to keep your business afloat until sufficient royalties start coming in from successful franchisees. “The additional working capital is likely to exceed the £30,000 to £40,000 initial set-up cost of the franchise,” says Mr Roberts.

“If you want to borrow to fund the transformation to a franchise, the maximum amount you can access is 50 per cent of the total cost, and you will need to demonstrate a robust and professionally produced business plan.”

Expect to be asked for personal guarantees backed by security, such as a charge on your home.

When your business becomes a franchise, your role will change dramatically from independent business owner to franchisor

Going the franchise route also involves a degree of risk to your business, so legal protection is essential. “A legal agreement protects your business systems, products, brand and processes, so you can control your franchisees and ensure they follow your systems, standards and rules,” says Jane Masih, franchise specialist at solicitors Owen White.

“A basic set of legal agreements and advice for turning a small business into a franchise typically costs £4,000 to £5,000,” says Ms Masih.

It also pays to hire an experienced franchise manager to run the franchised arm of your business. While you may know a great deal about your company’s product or service, running a franchise is a specialist skill, which a limited number of people have. “Look for a manager with the Qualified Finance Professional qualification and a track record of success,” says Mr Roberts.

So when should you get started on a franchise project? Ms McCafferty says: “Your business must be ready, but so must you. When your business becomes a franchise, your role will change dramatically from independent business owner to franchisor. Are you ready to stop doing what you love?”

I Get a Lot of Things Wrong

Business strategy It s become something of a strategy for me to jump into something, try to do it, fail, and then learn a little bit in the process. I learn more by failing than by studying something to death. But that s not all.

I Get a Lot of Things Wrong

I get people wrong. I forget that not everyone should be taken at face value. For me, I just don t know how to be a lot of different versions of myself. I m me. No matter if you see me on a stage in front of thousands or say hi to me while I m peeing in the men s room, I m the same guy. (Though I m not going to shake your hand in the men s room.) I take everyone at face value anyway, and then am willing to be wrong about them.

Which of These Trends Might Impact You Most?

Business strategy Here are the notes from the Chris Brogan Media broadcast for 10/23/17. (You can watch this on my Facebook account).

General Liability Insurance, Progressive Commercial, business liability insurance.#Business #liability #insurance

      General liability insurance

The foundation of small business liability protection

Protect your business from liability claims

General liability insurance (GL), often referred to as business liability insurance, is coverage that can protect you from a variety of claims including bodily injury, property damage, personal injury and others that can arise from your business operations. General liability insurance quotes usually include:

      • Bodily injury and property damage liability
      • Personal and advertising injury
      • Medical payments
      • Products completed operations
      • Damage to premises rented to you

Learn how these coverages protect small businesses and how much you’ll want to consider for your unique risk.

      Who needs general liability insurance?

General liability insurance is often combined with property insurance in a Business Owners Policy (BOP), but it’s also available to many contractors as a stand-alone coverage through the Progressive Advantage Business Program.

As a contractor or small business owner, you need some form of business liability insurance to safeguard your livelihood.

A single accident could result in a lawsuit that you might not be able to handle. A great way to protect against this is to make sure you have liability coverage that matches your level of exposure.

Some employers or clients might also require you to carry a certain amount of general liability before you can work for them.

      General liability insurance for contractors

If you’re a contractor, you might only want general liability – not a full BOP. For example, you might not own any commercial buildings that require property insurance, or need to cover payroll or other operating expenses. However, you’re still exposed to liability risks from your job.

You might be eligible to get general liability insurance, without the extra coverages in a BOP, through the Progressive Advantage Business Program. We offer general liability, as well as * Blanket Additional Insured Coverage to contractors who qualify.

*Blanket Additional Insured Coverage extends your existing liability insurance to other entities as required by some contracts with employers.

      General liability insurance cost

Various factors influence the cost of general liability insurance. Discover how these factors relate to your unique situation, and learn several ways to find the cheapest liability insurance for your business.

Find out if your business is eligible for general liability insurance through Progressive. We can help you find the best combination between price and protection by tailoring a policy specifically for your business. Call us today or start a quote online.

Get it all in a BOP

General liability, along with other coverages, is available in BOPs written through the Progressive Advantage Business Program.

If you need to protect things like personal property used for your business, or commercial buildings such as garages or storage facilities, you might require the additional protections provided in a BOP.

      Government Grants

In today s economy, it is quite normal to feel overwhelming stress when it comes to financial matters. This is especially true for individuals and organizations who would like to embark on projects from which not only they could benefit, but which also can be beneficial to society. It s important that you understand that there is help out there. As a matter of fact, it is in the government s best interest to fund people and groups that wish to grow financially, thereby strengthening the economy and their individual communities. If you are interested in benefiting from money that the government has set aside from people who wish to better their nation, you will want to research government grants.

      What Are Government Grants?

In today s economy, it is quite normal to feel overwhelming stress when it comes to financial matters. This is especially true for individuals and organizations who would like to embark on projects from which not only they could benefit, but which also can be beneficial to society. It s important that you understand that there is help out there. As a matter of fact, it is in the government s best interest to fund people and groups that wish to grow financially, thereby strengthening the economy and their individual communities. If you are interested in benefiting from money that the government has set aside from people who wish to better their nation, you will want to research government grants.

For those who are learning about government grants for the first time, it can be a bit of a mystery why the government would give money to people who would like to better their lives. There is a misconception about the government s function. In many ways, a role of the government is to see that the economy is strong. In order for the economy to be strong, however, the people in a country need to be able to progress. If you are interested in construction or home remodeling, for example, you can t do your job if you are having cash flow issues. This is why the government is willing to provide you money so that you can complete your projects

      Types of Government Grants

There are many different kinds of government grants. As a matter of fact, there are grants for virtually every kind of financial need that you can imagine. Individuals who are interested in growing their small businesses have access to a number of different grants developed to help improve this important and often struggling facet of the national economy. Likewise, people who are interested in improving their communities with sustainable and affordable housing can find a number of different grant opportunities offered by the Housing and Urban Development department. This agency also is known as HUD. There are also government grants offered to people who may need financial assistance at a personal level. For instance, there is funding for single mothers who may need help with basic financial support with school lunches and enrollment fees.

There also is funding for artists who would like to embark on large scale creative projects, but who may not have the time or money to see them fully realized. Another common goal of many of these grants is to help individuals who would like to go back to school. Pell grants, for example, are designed to fund individuals from low income brackets who would like to attend college. There are also education grants for people who have excelled as students and grants for people who would like to study concentrations that are beneficial to society.

How to Apply for Government Grants

If you are interested in applying for government grants, it first is necessary to register. Registering for federally funded grants is a relatively easy process, though it s important to remember to follow the instructions very closely. There often are a number of important dates and restrictions put on applicants, so you should make sure that you are entering the right information and that you are qualified to be awarded grants. One thing you want to keep in mind is that each government grant is assigned an identification number. In most cases, you will be expected to have access to this number before you begin the general application number.

Once you have been added to the government grants system, you will be ready then to prepare your materials for a specific grant. For individuals who are requesting basic financial assistance, this can be an easy and quick process as well. You may simply be required to provide some basic financial information regarding employment, income, and regular expenses. If you are applying for a grant that you will use to complete a project, however, you will certainly need to first prepare a statement and a budget. If you have never performed this kind of work before, you might need to get a little guidance.

The way in which you prepare for government grants depends largely on the nature of the grant for which you are applying. For example, if you are interested in beginning a housing project, you are going to need to do the work of a construction project manager. In other words, you will need to complete an initial budget in which you describe the materials and services you require and how you will use the funding to pay for these services and items. If you are interested in applying for funding for scientific research, if can be very important that you discuss your research goals. Likewise, you want to be sure that you can talk about how the funding will help you to improve your research. Artists who are applying for grants can count having to provide personal statements and resumes or curricula vitae.

As you are filling out your government grants materials, it s important that you remember to pay attention deadlines and other important details. In most cases, it is highly recommended that you complete all of your application materials at least a week prior to the deadline. If you are missing information or if you have not provided the correct information, a government grant representative will contact you and inform you that you need to revise your materials. If a representative has not had time to review your materials for errors before the passing of the deadline, however, then chances are that you will not be eligible for funding and will have to wait until the next year. In other words, it pays not to rush.
