Some People Have a Therapist. I Have a Business Coach.

We all have issues. For many people, those issues tend to be related to personal goals and problems, such as relationships and the like. For me, my anxiety, focus, goals and frustrations seem to mostly be around business.

So, while many people hire therapists, I have the business equivalent: a business coach.

I have been working with my coach, Alan Roby. for close to six years. We meet via phone for an hour, usually twice a month. He has helped me to not only transition myself from investment banker to a media and entrepreneurial hybrid, but he is a constant source of support.

While coaches can vary in price — from less than $100 to several hundred dollars or more per session — price shouldn t be the deciding factor. You want to find a coach who understands you and your business and that you are comfortable with, but also one that will push back on you, too. Hiring a yes man (or woman) won t produce a good return for your investment.

Getting recommendations can be a good place to start on your search for a coach. Also do some research online and then try out a few in a complimentary or low-cost initial session (which most coaches offer) to get a feel with whom you think would be the best fit for your needs.

Here s why I think that this type of business therapy is helpful and how you and your business can benefit from it.

I pay to only talk about me and my business

I m an advisor — it s the role I play in life. That role is so prevalent that for a while, my nickname was Lucy (a la The Dr. Is IN from the Peanuts cartoon). Personally and professionally, I give advice to solve other people s problems.

This means that most of the time, I am not focused on or talking about my development.

By paying a business coach, I get, for a full-hour at a time, to talk about and focus on nothing other than me, my problems, my opportunities, my goals and did I mention me? It forces me to schedule time to work on my own business, time that I would likely have spent helping someone else. This discipline has been invaluable in morphing my professional life and growing my business endeavors.

Additional business knowledge

While I do have many friends who would oblige listening to me if I asked, many don t understand business. So, their help isn t so helpful in problem solving. Having a savvy business person in my corner gives needed perspective, such as seeing the forest through the trees, so to speak, from someone whose input is relevant.

Consistency and history

Having a history of working together allows my coach to see patterns or to reference things and opportunities that I have mentioned in the past that I may have overlooked or even forgotten, but that could be helpful in the present and the future.

No BS

Because my coach is a paid advisor and not a friend, he will call me on the few occasions where I need to be called out. Friends, family and even colleagues are often hesitant to do this because they have a multi-faceted relationship with me and want to keep up the warm fuzzies in our interactions. The coaching relationship is aligned around helping me to succeed, which gives my coach more freedom to be honest and helpful.

No judgment

On the other side of the coin, I am also brutally honest with my coach, because I know that there is no judgment. I don t have to worry about hurting someone else s feelings or being vulnerable. Not that I am one to really be anything other than brutally honest, but I still feel like I have more liberty to deep-dive into the nitty-gritty of my moods, challenges, etc. because I know that he will help me to work through those, without having to worry about it making family dinner awkward.

So, whether you are seeking discipline, a forum to vent or even a sanity check without judgment, I recommend that you invest in a business coach to help your business get to the next level.

Rehabilitation Therapy Schools and Colleges #respiratory #therapist #schools #in #southern #california, #rehabilitation

Top Rehabilitation Therapy Schools

Rehabilitation therapy training is a popular area of health care education today, and some physical therapy aide programs offer the opportunity to earn a diploma in as little as six months, depending on the school, class availability and student aptitude. SchoolsGalore.com features a list of rehabilitation therapist schools where you can pursue degrees in occupational therapy, physical therapy or respiratory therapy. You may also find a number of colleges and universities where you can pursue a sports medicine degree, which may include training in athletic rehabilitation.

There are a number of physical therapy programs in the US. U.S. News and World Report highlighted some of these schools in its 2012 list of 10 best schools for physical therapy students (note that there are 11 schools on the list because of a three-way tie for 10 th place):

1. University of Southern California

2. University of Delaware

3. University of Pittsburgh

3. Washington University in St. Louis

5. University of Iowa

5. U.S. Army – Baylor University

7. Emory University

7. MGH Institute of Health Professions

9. Northwestern University

9. University of Miami

9. University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill

Students who choose not to pursue the primarily campus-based education of these schools still have options, however. Online institutions also offer programs that allow students to pursue an education in rehabilitation therapy.

Physical therapists and certified physical therapy assistants are required to have a certain level of rehabilitation therapy education and field experience to qualify for employment and/or licensure. Certificates or associate’s degrees may be adequate for physical therapy aides and assistants who work under the supervision of licensed physical therapists. However, those who work as rehabilitation therapists, occupational therapists or respiratory therapists must have a minimum of a master’s degree from an accredited school of physical therapy, as well as a license from their state of practice. Sports medicine degrees and certifications may also be required for orthopedic therapists and athletic trainers.

Examples of rehabilitation therapist courses available through schools on schoolsgalore.com

Occupational therapy training can provide you with instruction on helping debilitated patients regain abilities to perform everyday tasks with the goal of more independent living. Occupational therapists perform various therapeutic exercises and other health care therapies on patients with injuries, conditions or illnesses that cause limited mobility or mental incapacitation. A master’s degree in occupational therapy (MOT) is typically required for practice. The practicing OT may also apply for enrollment in a doctorate of occupational therapy degree program (OTD), if desired. There are also occupational therapy schools that offer certificates and associate degrees for those interested in learning the techniques of occupational therapy aides. Students who are enrolled in accredited occupational therapy schools may be eligible for membership in The American Occupational Therapy Association .

Physical therapists are usually required to have a doctoral degree from an accredited physical therapy program. In addition to these physical therapy training requirements, the graduate must also pass a state licensing exam. Rehabilitation therapist schools design their PT training courses to prepare students to face PT licensing requirements and exams. Physical therapy degree programs may be concentrated on one specialty, such as rehabilitation therapy or sports medicine. A master’s degree in physical therapy may take five years or longer to complete. A quicker route to clinical practice may be to pursue training as a physical therapy aide, and then continue your health care education at a later date.

Physical Therapy Aide

Learning to be a physical therapy assistant may include classes in therapeutic exercise, electrical stimulation, hydrotherapy, medical massage and other prescribed health care techniques designed to provide pain relief and improve mobility. Some physical therapy aide schools provide a course that is designed to prepare students for professional certification. Check with individual colleges and universities to see what they recommend for pursuing employment as a physical therapy aide.

Helping patients breathe easier and regain cardiopulmonary strength are among the tasks that licensed respiratory therapists tackle. Respiratory therapy training may be completed in as little as two years depending on course availability and student scheduling–with an associate’s degree program in respiratory therapy. However, many employers now require a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree. Respiratory therapy students may learn to evaluate a patient’s condition and to perform therapeutic respiratory treatments under the direct supervision of a respiratory therapy technician. Respiratory therapy schools are likely to carry official approval from The Commission on Accreditation in Allied Health Education (CAAHEP) or the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).

Sports Medicine Degrees

Schools for sports medicine offer training to athletic coaches and students who want to learn methods of orthopedic therapy. The level of training required for employment depends on the exact position sought. School may offer sports medicine certification courses or undergraduate and graduate degrees in sports medicine or both. When enrolled in a sports medicine degree program, you may receive instruction on the techniques used by athletic trainers. orthopedic therapists or physical therapists for hospitals, athletic organizations, sports venues or schools. To learn more about these programs, contact several sports medicine schools and colleges for more information.

Learn more about rehabilitation therapist schools and colleges

If you are serious about finding the best education in rehabilitation therapy available, be sure that your choice of schools carries accreditation from an officially approved agency. In the field of rehabilitation therapy education, accreditation comes from agencies such as The Commission on Accreditation in Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and others. Check with the U.S. Department of Education and/or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to get a list of the accrediting agencies authorized to verify the quality of rehabilitation therapy schools and colleges.

Find some rehabilitation therapist schools and colleges through schoolsgalore.com

Contact several of your choice selections to request more information. Compare the course offerings and degree programs until you are satisfied you can pick the best rehabilitation therapy school to suit your goals.

ABOUT ACCREDITATION: Official accreditation is your assurance of third-party verification of a school s quality. Please be sure to check that your schools of interest have all been fully accredited by professional accrediting organizations that are approved by The U.S. Department of Education (USDE) or The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or both.

Credit Transfer From Another School

Transcripts of work completed at other accredited colleges may be submitted to the Director of Education for review. Transcripts should be submitted during the first term of a student s program. Other documentation may also be required. Credits considered for transfer are evaluated by the Director of Education to determine if the course work is similar in nature, content, and level to that required at Fox College. If the course work is comparable, transfer students may be given credit for courses completed at other accredited colleges, provided the grades received for the courses were C or better. The Director of Education will review transcript(s) from each individual student one time. Courses completed at other Bradford schools will be treated the same as courses taken at Fox College. Because programs at Fox College are specially tailored to career preparation, course credits from other postsecondary schools may not be transferable. A maximum of 25 semester credits will be accepted in transfer for students transferring credit who have less than a bachelor s degree.

Students who participated in the Advanced Placement program in their high schools may be granted credit provided they had scores of 3, 4, or 5 on the Advanced Placement tests. Fox College does not grant life experience credit and does not accept transfer credit earned from any of these sources at another institution. One exception is credit for military training that has been evaluated and recommended for credit by the American Council on Education (ACE). Fox College may award credit based on these recommendations when the credit is for courses similar in nature, content, and level to that required at the college. Students seeking credit for military training should provide a transcript from the American Council on Education for evaluation. Credit will be treated as transfer credit and will count toward graduation.

Fox College is a receiving institution within the Illinois Articulation Initiative (IAI). Students who have earned a bachelor s degree and satisfactorily completed the Transferable General Education Core Curriculum at any participating college or university in Illinois will be granted credit towards fulfilling Fox College s general education requirements.

Credit Transfer to Another School

The acceptance of credits is always at the discretion of the institution to which a student is attempting to transfer credits. There may be articulation agreements in place at the time the student enters that may not be in place when the student graduates or desires to attend a particular school. Because programs at Fox College are designed specifically for career preparation, students must assume that credits for courses taken at Fox College are not transferable to other institutions. Neither Fox College nor any of its employees can represent that another institution will accept any courses for credit.

A student who is interested in attempting to transfer credits to another institution should contact the Director of Education. Fox College will supply the necessary documentation that may aid the student in receiving credits for the completed course work provided the student does not owe the school money, is not delinquent or in default on a student loan, or does not owe a refund on any federal or state student financial aid program.
